SAMČO BRAT DÁŽĎOVIEK
Samčo, the brother of earthworms, is a distinctive stalwart of Slovak experimental music with a well-developed sense for finding and reflecting on various Slovak bizarrenesses that would at worst remain forever forgotten or at best hidden from the wider public. Thanks to Samuel Szabó “s music albums, videos, lectures and revelatory texts, they remain alive in various collages, compilations and reinterpretations, making even more visible what many Slovak citizens prefer to hide their eyes from. Samč” s insertion of everyday social events into absurd contexts, bizarre commentary on reality, lo-fi aesthetics and artful movement on the sonically “genre-less” edge appear in many cases as a healing, fresh and, above all, topical current within the entire Slovak music scene. His discography offers plenty of surprises, fun from the unconnected and documentary sound recordings that make the blood run cold. In March, Samčo, brother of earthworms won the Radio_Head Awards for Album of the Year 2015 in the genre of experimental music. We talked about the aforementioned album (ÁTTÖRŐ ERŐ), live playing, the “refugee” video, DIY aesthetics and other oddities.
