#Kyube15: We don’t play until further notice
Theatre lecture by Marek Godovič, theatre scholar and employee of the Theatre Institute in Bratislava.
As part of measures against the spread of the new coronavirus, theatres in Slovakia were closed in the spring and are still closed in the autumn Many have moved their art online to stay in touch with their audiences. For Slovak independent theatre, too, these impacts have been harsh, painful on the edge of survival. In a small theatrological analysis of the pandemic, we will not quantify the losses, although this is a crucial issue at the moment, but we will talk about the gains, the creative ones, which audiences could watch in the darkness of their living rooms via the Internet. How did Slovak independent filmmakers create during the pandemic? And did they even have a place to create? Does an artist have to be hungry and poor to create something worthwhile? What did we learn about ourselves ? When will Slovak culture explode from “accumulated energy to a beauty that hasn’t been there for years”? And what about Artaud ? a time of pandemic ? And did they even have a place to create? What did we learn about ourselves ? And what about Artaud?
