Scene V4 in Trencin: Authenticity – Content – Composition

Residency and workshop with Eduard Kudláč (SK)

Where does body meet meaning? When is a gesture real? How can silence be a statement and chaos a structure? A performative workshop that explores three key elements of making in contemporary art on the axis of authenticity ~ content ~ composition. In this workshop we will explore the boundaries between body and text, between individual experience and collective gesture, between what we can say – and what can be experienced. We will seek a bodily and emotional presence that is not acting. We will focus on working with the body, breath and voice not as part of “naturalness” but as a conscious choice. We will work with open-ended meanings, metaphors and ambiguity. We will explore how content is created, how it is (mis)communicated, and what all happens between the creator and the viewer. We will analyze dramaturgical possibilities in non-narrative structures and try out our own compositions – from micro-gestures to whole situations. Composition as a rhythm of body, image, sound, duration, a laboratory in which we explore: who am I when I am in front of the other? Where do I end and where does the image begin? And what actually happens?

Eduard Kudláč (SK)
Eduard Kudláč, theatre director, visual artist, curator. Studied theatre directing at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. He developed his focus on the search for new possibilities of theatre through movement, fragmentation, non-verbal expression and action in his own association phenomenontheatre, which he founded in 2000 as an independent platform for contemporary theatre. Since 2009, he has been the artistic director of the Municipal Theatre Žilina, which profiles itself as a theatre with a bold dramaturgy focused on contemporary Slovak and foreign texts and unconventional interpretations of the classics.

The project of international theatre residencies brings to Trenčín a unique format of collective author’s creation under the guidance of experienced lecturers from the V4 countries – Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland. In the open and creative space of Družba Drama Studio in Trenčín, four short stage forms will be created, reflecting the personal experiences of the participants and their work together. The aim of the residencies is to connect professional artists with the local community, to foster creativity and to give the audience an insight into the process of creating a theatre work. The results of each residency will be publicly presented and accompanied by discussions with the artists. The project offers a new way of seeing theatre – as a space for collaboration, dialogue and sharing. At the same time, it creates a model that can inspire other artistic initiatives in Trenčín and beyond.

Participation in the residencies is limited and free of charge.

The project Scena V4: Collective creation in residencies is realized with the support of Trenčín 2026 – European Capital of Culture.
